JaSFtp Editor's Review

JaSFtp is a secure FTP client written in Java. As you might know, many people argue that Java doesn't provide good support for creating nice graphical user interfaces. Considering this, the publisher did a good job with this program's user interface. It's well designed and quite easy to use. The buttons look nice, so it's rather easy to get used to them.

In terms of functionality, the program is good. You can use it to connect to secure or normal FTP servers. There are four tabs which allow you to access the program's main features. There's a tab for connecting to secure FTP servers, and a separate tab for connecting using normal FTP. The other two tabs enable you to add tasks and schedules.

The program can be configured to copy files to and from a server. It's also possible to synchronize directories. Other worth mentioning features include the ability to delete files from a server based on a schedule, and the fact that the program is able to download/upload multiple files at once.

Pluses: JaSFtp can encrypt your passwords using your own encryption key. This improves the security of your saved passwords. You should really set your encryption key (for Settings - Password Encryption menu) the first time you start the program. You need to re-enter all your passwords whenever you change their encryption key.

Drawbacks / flaws: The user interface behaves weird sometimes. I tried to add a new task, but two tasks with the same name appeared. Also, when defining a new FTP account, the program didn't save my settings even though I pressed the "Save" button.

In conclusion: This program has lots of useful features. However, if you only need to connect to secure FTP servers I recommend to try alsoWinSCP which is free.
